The part of an eye examination most people relate to is the vision test or refraction. While this is only one phase of your examination, it's certainly an important one. Using the most advanced equipment, we will do a series of lens tests to determine if you need glasses or contact lenses to improve your vision.

Obtaining Optomap Retinal Images is comfortable,quick and very simple. By looking into the Optomap Eyepiece the digital image of your retina is captured in less than a second. A small flash indicates the image has been taken. Nothing touches your eye during the process. Your Optomap retinal Image is then immediately displayed for Dr. Hill to review with you. Best of all the Optomap Rentinal Exam does not require dilating drops which typically cause blurred vision and sensitivity to light for hours.

March 29, 2002, Dr. Hill was one of the first in Union to offer patients the revolutionary EPIC-2100, the latest addition to Marco Technologies Integrated Refraction Systems. Compared to standard manual eye equipment (ie., "Which is better, one or two?"), the fully automated EPIC-2100 is a faster, more accurate, and patient-friendly method of performing eye exams.

One of the most beneficial aspects of the EPIC-2100 is its ability to compare a patient's vision three ways with a simple touch of a button:

(1) without corrective eye wear,
(2) using an old prescription, or
(3) patient's new prescription, . This comparison helps the patient more readily accept a change in prescription, as they see their vision improve immediately.

Additionally, patients are often shuffled from room to room, spending most of thei visit waiting for the doctor or technician to complete their eye exam. With the EPIC-2100, the entire refraction takes place without the patient or examiner leaving their chairs, allowing them more valuable face-to-face time with the doctor.
The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph
The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph is a system that combines a laser scanning camera and specialized software that evaluates the optic nerve. The HRT may diagnose glaucoma years before symptoms become apparent to the patient.

The Biomicroscope and Slit-Lamp are used to examination the anterior segment of the eye. The slit-lamp is also used with the tonometer to measure the intraocular pressure for glaucoma.
